Who is the
florentine behind
weekend-in-florence.com ?

Welcome!

My name is Filippo, I’m 33 years old and (obviously) I’m Florentine. I love my city and as every self-respecting Tuscan I love good food and all its trappings (my mom claims that my physical appearance shows, in a good way, that I love good food…)! But how do you control yourself in front of a steaming hot ‘ribollita’, a nice bistecca alla fiorentina and a pleasant tasting Chianti ?

Me and my bistecca alla fiorentina !

A part from Florence and the Tuscan cuisine I’m a motor enthusiast (I have a Ducati 1098s) and I’m defending the category of golf players (I have a 4 handicap, for those who understand what that means), furthermore I’m obsessed with computers and the internet, always more fascinated and never satisfied with my level of knowledge. And what does all this have to do with the homepage? And why do a homepage about Florence? There could be millions… yes that’s true. But if it’s made by a real Florentine d.o.c who was born and raised here?

It changes the visual angle: entering a reality that reveals the Middle-Ages and technology, of anecdotes and worldliness, of stone taverns and sober nobility. Everything is, however, my girlfriend Erminia’s fault (or merit). Oh yes, because she is a Neapolitan who was dragged here by me, with all the typical feminine curiosity to discover the most hidden secrets. She was forced “to discover” the city on her own because my work, (I’m a club manager), was taking up, and is taking up a lot of my time.

At the end of her days as a tourist we confronted it, and when talking about her fascinating discoveries, it reminded me of the stunning views and the beauty of restaurants, handcraft shops and typical meeting places which are often forgotten in everyday life, and especially the Florentines proud “shouting” in the suburbs.

Erminia What really attracted her to Florence was yes, the museums, the majestic art, and the multiplicity of events of every type, but most of all the magic Florentino atmosphere that existed in the corners of the less touristic small streets of the city centre. The every-day-life as a real attraction of the city! I didn’t know if I should feel taunted or to boast the honor of living in such a unique city.

We Florentines think that the entire world speaks like us. We are so used to our aspirated way of speaking, that we don’t understand how come the entire world smiles when we tell the barman, “to give us a Hoha-Hola! (Coca-cola)…” And so, a bit for personal culture, a bit for pride, I started collecting news and information about the city, living it as a tourist would….. and then we come to weekend-a-firenze.com! Said in this way it sounds easy, especially for a web beginner as I was, do you want to know how I did it?

This is how I created this site.
