If you like the old style English golf-courses there is no doubt that you have to play at
Florence Golf Club
also known as ‘Golf dell’Ugolino’. As Italy’s oldest golf club the course seems to be old-fashioned if we compare to today’s standards. But here they hosted the 1983 Italian Open as well as three Volvo Opens in the 90’s. If this is not enough, it’s located in the Chianti hills and its view is stunning!
For those who instead prefer American style golf-courses be sure not to miss Le Pavoniere. The 18 holes designed by Arnold Palmer at the gates of Florence appear flat and physically easy but don’t let your eyes fool you. The course is filled with obstacles (often with water) defending the green and is a good challenge for your game. Another top golf-course in the Florence area is ‘Poggio dei Medeci’. This newly contructed golf-course represents an excellent balance between modern architecture and the charm of the Tuscan hillside. At the end of the day, after your 18 holes, an old ‘Medici’ villa from the sixteenth century that is now the club house welcomes you with a cocktail and offers you stunning views. Don’t have enough time?? No problem, you can go to ‘Parco di Firenze’. It is a small club that is located on the shores of the Arno very close to the ‘Parco delle Cascine’ and very well equipped for your practice. It has an illuminated driving range and an executive 9 (par 28). ‘L’ Ugolino’, ’Le Pavoniere’ and ’Poggio dei Medici’ are our favorite golf clubs in Tuscany but this magnificant area offers many of other possibilities. Here are some other clubs in order of their proximity to Florence:
