Le Pavoniere Golf Club
The Golf Club Le Pavoniere is a relatively new golf course, conceived nearly 20 years ago by a few players with a passion for the game. At the beginning, it counted only 6 holes, but today, the club boasts 18 magnificent holes, designed by the champion American golfer Arnold Palmer. A nineteenth-century villa was transformed into a club house. This villa, once belonged to Leopoldo de Medici (in Tuscany, the de Medici family was everywhere!).
Le Pavoniere offers its guests first class services. What sets it apart however, at least for us, is the course. Palmer in fact has gifted us with delicately undulated fairways, greens protected by bunkers of the finest sand and truly insidious water obstacles.
Playing the first hole, you would be tempted to say “This course is easy”. Wait till you get to the second hole. It‘s a par 4, nearly 400 meters (437 yards) with water running all along the left side and under the green. If the flag is far to the left, it is quite the challenge!
The water will keep you company until the 6th hole, for your tee shot and for your approach to the green. Imagine the 5th hole - a par 3 of nearly 200 meters (218 yards) and a lake lining the green. You just have to look at the picture to the side and you will feel goose bumps!
Finally a bit of respite - hole 9 brings you to the club house without too many problems - but… don’t lower your guard, the dreaded 13th is in ambush, a short but lethal par 4. This time, the water encircles the fairway and cuts in front of the green. No errors are allowed!
You will also have to face the 15th, a long par 4 with water ready to punish the closed shots towards the rolling green. The 17th is a par 3, 170 meters (185 yards) and a tier green - try to land your ball on the right level or else you are in trouble! Finally you have reached the 18th, a “friendly” par 4, dog-leg right, a lake flanking the fairway – and you take a light shot to the green - protected in the front by what else - water.
And if to the end of the day, the course has gotten the better of you and your game, don’t worry, cheer yourself up at the wellness oasis or let yourself be tempted by the restaurant’s culinary creations. The Golf Club Le Pavoniere is always ready to give you a rematch!
