Your restaurants for the
best bistecca alla fiorentina

Bistecca alla Fiorentina

The Bistecca alla Fiorentina is the real winner of our cuisine, where to try the best makes you happy! As a side dish we suggest you to order French fries or baked potatoes, or a salad but also fresh beans with oil all this meanwhile you are sipping a Chianti Classico even better if it’s a reserve, for example Nipozzano, Castello di Cacchiano or Brunello di Montalcino dč Barbi.

A recommendation is important: don’t ask for it “well done…”, the host might get offended and send you away from the restaurant in a glimpse of an eye.

For every restaurant you will find information about how to get there, a short description and where available a link to their homepage.

Buca Lapi

Address: Via del Trebbio 1r

Telephone: 055-213768

Description: the restaurant began in 1880 and in that era it was known as “Buca”, the Waggoner’s meeting-place.

As the years passed by it maintained the typical Florentine cuisine and it is renowned for its excellent steak.

It belongs to the Antinori family (in the past it belonged to the Medici family!) and other than the good cuisine it’s famous for its posters hanging in the restaurant that come from all over the world. The price is high but everything is impeccable: service, food and presentation are all perfect and their steaks are worth every cent of the 70 euro for a kilo. In general, the whole selection of Tuscan dishes are great. If you are having guests and you bring them to Buca Lapi, they are going to be thankful for a long time.

Da Padellina

Address: Corso del Popolo 54 - Strada in Chianti

Telephone: 055-858388

Description: Padellina also offers a bonus with its terrace in the summer, that opens up to the Tuscan hills. Inside it is quite small but very characteristic. You must try the ‘penne sul gallo’, the papardelle with boar and obviously the ‘bistecca alla fiorentina’ one of the best in Florence, and the ‘nana muta' arrosto (the roasted mute dwarf, which is actually a goose) and the ‘fegatelli battuti’.

And finally, cantucci and vinsanto for everyone and maybe a rant from The Divine Comedy by the innkeeper, who is always in good form! The price is just above the average, but it’s worth it, guaranteed. Right outside Florence in the southern parts on the mythical wine and oil road, that goes towards Siena.

Sostanza (commonly called “i' Troia”)

Address: Via del Porcellana 25r

Telephone: 055-212691

Description: try asking any Florentine in the city center “…where is the restaurant Sostanza?...”. They probably won’t answer, not out of rudeness or because they dislike tourists, but simply because they know it as another name. Try with “…where is Il Troia?...”.

And we promise you that it’s not an offence but just the owner’s nickname and knowing that this is the only way to get directions for this Florentine restaurant per excellence. It was established in 1869 by the Campolmi family as a porterhouse, wine house and grocery store.

Its original characteristics including a great part of the furnishing, for example the huge marble tables, remained essentially unchanged and it offers its customers the most typical Florentine dishes. Don’t miss the Tuscan soup, tripe and the steak. The restaurant might seem basic but that is what makes it so genuine and incredibly Florentine! It's small and a reservation is very important and remember, no credit card approved only cash.
